The longstanding program recognizes undergraduate students across all FSU colleges for their exceptional leadership and notable impact within the FSU community.

“Thank you for all you do to make FSU so special,” Brandon Bowden, associate vice president for Student Affairs, said at the event honoring the students. “Your dedication to creating a legacy has made an impact greater than the sum of its parts. Thank you for giving Florida State a part of your heart and for letting our great institution be a part of your story.”

Inductees become part of a network representing leaders of change, devotion to FSU and the promise to continue making a notable impact after graduation. Each student received a special Torchbearer 100 medallion to wear at commencement and was celebrated for being a testament to FSU’s legacy of leadership within the student body.

The Torchbearer 100 selection process begins with application submissions in September; interviews are conducted in November. A selection committee chose the 100 students who best exemplified and inspired excellence, transformative daring, responsible stewardship and community engagement.

Bowden shared that this was an incredibly competitive year, with applicants reflecting a greater representation of majors, colleges and organizations than ever before.

Dol is a first-generation student within FSU’s Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE). The community and support he found in CARE inspired him to pursue many rewarding experiences and recognitions.

Dol is the incoming Black Student Union (BSU) president, social and events chair of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., a Sean Pittman Award Winner, a 2025 Torchbearer 100 inductee and a Garnet and Gold Key honor society initiate.

In 2024, Dol led his fraternity to create a toy drive for the Boys Town nonprofit. He coordinated publicity and gathered donations for the holiday event. He collected two carloads of toys, making a difference in his local community for children in need of holiday spirit.

Through the BSU, Dol helps raise funds for and administers the Bobby E. Leach Scholarship to three students who make significant contributions to the local community.

Dol has worked his way through many internships in the data and software engineering fields, interning at FSU and with companies such as Wells Fargo, Capital One and Nordstrom.

Why did you choose Florida State University?

I chose to attend FSU because of the CARE program and the people I met through it. As a first-generation student, I always feared that college was not meant for me; I thought I would not fit in or even be accepted anywhere. I did not have many people in my life who had made it to FSU or even to college.

However, I met a faculty member from CARE who told me about the department and how it was designed to help first-generation students like me, who are unsure about college and need a strong support system. After that conversation, I started researching different schools I might be interested in, but none of them offered the sense of community that FSU did. FSU made me feel like I belonged.

What academic achievements have you accomplished at FSU?

My most significant academic accomplishment while at FSU is landing an internship at Wells Fargo as a software engineering intern. One of my biggest goals during my time at FSU was to take full advantage of every resource and opportunity available to me. I made sure not only to attend class and learn, but also to seek out ways to grow and develop outside of the classroom.

That meant going to the Career Center every semester, consistently applying for tech roles through InternFSU, using free tutoring services and attending every networking mixer I could.

Through that mindset and effort, I was able to land roles in software engineering and data analysis at companies like Discover and Nordstrom. Most recently, I interned at Wells Fargo for the summer of 2025. I know that everything I have learned at FSU has helped me succeed in this role.

How do you serve the community?

Within my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, one of my biggest goals is to make a direct impact on our community. This includes a wide range of service initiatives and events, such as volunteering at homeless shelters, senior living homes, Boys Town and more. One of the main ways we give back is by visiting schools around the Tallahassee area. At these schools, we engage with students through various activities like playing games, reading books or performing dances.

My most significant community service experience within my fraternity would be the toy drive I helped spearhead for the nonprofit Boys Town, a foster home for children in need. This experience was especially meaningful to me because, years ago, I was one of those kids attending toy drives hoping to receive a free toy. I remember how much it meant to me, and I hope this effort brought that same joy to those children.

While being involved in the BSU, I have had the opportunity to help organize multiple events, but one of my favorites is definitely the Afro Funk Fest. During the festival, we invite up-and-coming artists from FSU and the Tallahassee area to perform and showcase their talent. We also feature small businesses, giving them a platform to present their products and gain exposure within the FSU community. It is fulfilling to create a space that not only entertains but also uplifts and supports local talent and entrepreneurship.

Through the BSU, the most significant leadership experience I worked on as a previous director was the Bobby E. Leach Scholarship. This project is important to me because awarding a scholarship that can genuinely change someone’s life is deeply fulfilling, especially after hearing the powerful, often unheard stories of the recipients’ contributions. It is a project I give my all to every year because I truly believe efforts like this can make a real difference in someone’s life.

“Thank you for exemplifying the university’s core values,” Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht said at the program April 14. “The Torchbearer 100 program aims to thank and celebrate student leaders for the impact they’ve had at Florida State. We are the dynamic institution we are today because of our student honorees.”

A selection committee chose the 100 students who best exemplified and inspired excellence, dynamic inclusiveness, transformative daring, responsible stewardship and community engagement. The selection process begins with applications in September and interviews are conducted in October and November. Inductees become part of a distinguished network representing leaders of change, devotion to FSU and the promise to continue to make a notable impact after graduation.

Each student received a special Torchbearer 100 medallion to wear at commencement and was celebrated for being a testament to Florida State’s legacy of leadership within the student body.

The Torchbearer 100 program is a longstanding tradition which recognizes a diverse group of 100 undergraduate students who have shown exceptional leadership and achievement during their collegiate careers.

A selection committee chose the students who best exemplified the university’s core values: inspired excellence, dynamic inclusiveness, transformative daring, responsible stewardship and engaged community. Each honoree received a special Torchbearer 100 medallion to wear at commencement and was celebrated for being a testament to Florida State’s legacy of leadership within the student body.

“FSU’s incredible student life has been created and developed by students since our founding,” said Amy Hecht, vice president for student affairs. “The Torchbearer 100 is an opportunity for the university to recognize and honor those students who continue to build upon our tradition of leadership and service.”

The Torchbearer 100 program, which was reimagined in 2019, is intended to thank and celebrate students’ leadership and legacy.

Honorees were recognized for their notable impact within the FSU community, thanked for their leadership and legacy, and received a special Torchbearer 100 medallion to wear at commencement on April 25 during a celebration at the FSU Student Union.

Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht thanked the honorees for the impact they’ve had at the university.

“The Torchbearer 100 is an opportunity for the university to recognize and thank students who have made a significant impact on campus and in the community,” Hecht said. “FSU’s incredible student life has been created and developed by students since our founding. We want to thank and honor those students who continue to build upon our tradition of leadership and service.”

A selection committee chose the 100 students who best exemplified the university’s core values: transformative daring, inspired excellence, dynamic inclusiveness, responsible stewardship and engaged community.

Becoming an FSU student meant she could explore her passions for medicine and philanthropy while staying involved in her community.

“Coming to college at Florida State was a difficult choice because it was home, but easy because it felt like home,” she said.

As a freshman, Ling pursued FSU’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, or UROP, to explore chromosome missegregation as it pertained to cancer genetics at a biomedical research lab in the FSU College of Medicine.

“My experience with UROP not only strengthened my knowledge of biology and genetics but introduced me to the power of mentorship,” Ling said.

Ling began volunteering at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, or TMH, in high school and became a colleague when she enrolled at Florida State. As an aspiring physician and an active member of her community, Ling now works in the TMH Bixler Emergency Room.

Ling was inducted into the Torchbearer 100 for her leadership and commitment to giving back to her local community.

She has held various leadership positions in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and recently served on the 2022 Executive Committee as the director of philanthropy, where she coordinated four events to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee.

“As a native of Tallahassee, my initial goal was to bridge the gap between Florida State and the local community,” she said. “Many FSU students lack interaction with the local community beyond campus.”

To address this, Ling created “Moonlight Market,” an event that raised more than $14,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tallahassee and featured local businesses. Within her sorority, she also helped start “Diamond Meals,” a program to donate leftover meals from the sorority house to Grace Mission and the Kearney Center, two local resources for the homeless population in Tallahassee.

Ling’s passion for service extends into her career aspirations. Currently, she serves as an FSU UROP leader for the biological and medical sciences, where she mentors students at the Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Through FSU’s Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences Student Ambassador Program, Ling peer mentors lower-level IMS students to help them achieve academic success.

“The coursework and extracurricular opportunities provided by the IMS program have allowed me to grow as an academic and researcher in combination with my clinical experience,” she said.

In the future, Ling plans to attend medical school to further develop the leadership skills she discovered at FSU to become a physician. Her commitment to philanthropy will extend beyond her sorority as Ling intends to run a global nonprofit focused on the health of underdeveloped communities.

What inspired you to further pursue the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program as a program leader?

During my time as a student in UROP, I learned invaluable skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and perseverance. I had an incredible UROP leader who helped shape my undergraduate experience and served as a role model both personally and academically. As a teacher of a K-12 public speaking course and through my service as an FSU Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences ambassador, my passion for mentorship emerged. I enjoyed working with students of varying ages and found it fulfilling to provide insight or guidance in terms of their skills and academic experience.

What FSU resources helped support your educational and leadership success?

I attribute much of my educational and leadership success to my peers — specifically, individuals in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the Garnet and Gold Key leadership honor society who inspired me with their ambition and intellect. The continued support and mentorship motivated me to make my time at FSU as meaningful as possible and to prepare for life after college.

As the former director of philanthropy for the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, what legacy do you want to leave for future members of the sorority?

I hope to leave a legacy of innovation and passion for philanthropy and service. I hope the following directors of philanthropy will be encouraged and inspired by the new events created and held during my term. I hope that my work inspires chapter women to continue immersing themselves in the Tallahassee community through service, small business support and leadership involvement.

How have your experiences outside the classroom complemented your clinical professions curriculum?

Within the IMS major, students complete a capstone research project on an issue in health care. With my experience at TMH, I was able to identify my capstone topic, which focuses on the prevalence and significance of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. In turn, I can conduct research on a topic I am passionate about and contribute data to an evolving concern in health care.

What does Florida State University mean to you?

Florida State has been my home since I was born. I grew up surrounded by the Friday night Downtown Getdowns, home football games and events at Ruby Diamond Auditorium. Upon coming to Florida State for my undergraduate career, I gained an invaluable education, lifelong friendships, leadership and research opportunities and pushed myself more than I ever thought possible. I intend to carry my relationship with FSU forward for life because it’s my home. I know the students I mentor through the IMS Ambassador Program and my UROP class will be my legacy at Florida State. In the future, I plan on becoming a ProfessioNole mentor for undergraduate women in STEM and a Fairy Pi Mother to girls in the incoming Alpha Classes of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
