The Florida State University Alumni Association will sponsor “Spring Alumni Weekend” April 14 – 17. Held annually, the special spring celebration is designed for alumni who attended either Florida State College for Women or Florida State University 50 or more years ago. The weekend’s activities include a three-day reunion for the class of 1955.
Other classes that have special anniversaries to observe during the weekend include the classes of 1950, 1945 and 1940, but the weekend is designed to welcome former students from virtually all classes from 1955 and before. The program’s events will be highlighted by a combined Saturday night reception and banquet at the Alumni Association’s new Alumni Center on West Tennessee Street — a facility that many of those attending will remember as the site of the President’s House. Other activities include behind-the-scenes tours of university facilities like the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, the new Moore Athletic Center and the College of Medicine.
FSU President T.K. Wetherell is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the concluding banquet, and participants will have opportunities to mingle and meet with campus officials throughout the weekend. One of the key ceremonies of the weekend is the induction of the Class of 1955 into the Emeritus Society, representing all alumni who attended either institution a half century or more ago. Family members are invited to attend with alumni who want to participate in the weekend program.
Washington Mutual, an affinity partner of the FSU Alumni Association, is a corporate sponsor for the Spring Alumni Weekend. Alumni who are interested in learning more about any of the weekend’s events should contact the Alumni Association for additional information at (850)644-2761 or email fsualum@alumni.fsu.edu.
