The Florida State University College of Music has announced a 2022-2023 concert season that features a 17-event University Musical Associates (UMA) Concert Series and an eight-event Housewright Virtuoso Series – both of which will showcase professional-level performances by students, faculty and special guests from around the world.
The UMA Concert Series begins Sept. 9 with a performance from jazz vocalist and FSU alumna Inga Swearingen, who will join FSU jazz faculty members in a selection of jazz standards and contemporary hits. FSU’s University Symphony Orchestra will make its season debut the following week, featuring works by Aaron Copland, Sergei Prokofiev and Johannes Brahms.
Performances will take place at Opperman Music Hall and the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.
The Housewright Virtuoso Series, with performances at Opperman Music Hall, begins Sept. 30 with the debut performance of the Dohnányi Chamber Players. Other events in the series include a star-studded salute to Broadway legend Jerry Herman, a performance by the prominent Ying Quartet and a celebration of Franz Schubert’s 225th birthday by FSU’s string and piano faculty.
“The University Musical Associates (UMA) Concert Series and the Housewright Virtuoso Series offer audiences the chance to immerse themselves in a unique and rich array of musical styles while showcasing the exceptional talent of young musicians as they launch their promising careers,” said Gregory Jones, associate dean of the College of Music.
In addition to these subscription series events, the College of Music also announces the return of two perennial fall favorites: Prism (Nov. 29 – Dec. 2), which features all of the FSU bands, including the Marching Chiefs, and Seasonal Celebration (Dec. 4), an aptly named choral performance that features the combined voices of FSU and community choirs. Both performances will be held in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.
UMA Concert Series members will receive season tickets to all 25 season performances, plus exclusive benefits including additional discounted tickets, free parking, invitations to member-only receptions and advance purchase opportunities for tickets to the Prism and Seasonal Celebration performances.
Subscriptions and single tickets can be purchased at tickets.music.fsu.edu, by phone at 850-644-6500 or in person starting Aug. 29 at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, located within the Fine Arts Building. Tickets can also be purchased beginning one hour before each performance.
