Florida State University will highlight its internationalization and global awareness efforts during International Education Month in November. The monthlong celebration expands upon International Education Week, a joint initiative led by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education held nationally the third week of November.
FSU has over 100 international agreements, including cooperative agreements and bilateral exchange agreements, fostering faculty collaborations and student exchanges across the globe. With European study centers in England, Spain and Italy, a branch campus in the Republic of Panama, global exchanges in 21 different countries and 2,192 enrolled international students on campus this semester representing over 125 countries, FSU’s international impact is significant.
Events will begin Friday, Nov. 1, and run throughout the month. Featured events include:
FRIDAY, NOV. 1
Global Exchanges Fair

Meet international students from FSU’s partner universities and FSU students who have recently been abroad as exchange students to learn more about FSU’s Global Exchange programs.
International Coffee Hour: Puerto Rican Student Association
5-6:30 p.m., The Globe
Join the Center for Global Engagement every Friday classes are in session for their signature event featuring refreshments from a featured culture and interaction with students, scholars and faculty from around the world. The Puerto Rican Student Association will serve pastelillos de guayaba and piña colada. This event is open to all current FSU students, faculty, staff and their invited guests that accompany them.

International Education Month Opening Reception

The opening reception for International Education Month at FSU will feature music by the College of Music’s Advanced Intercultural Ensemble, international hors d’oeuvres and remarks by Vice President for Student Affairs Amy Hecht and Assistant Provost for International Initiatives Stephen McDowell.

Navigating Medical School Applications: Insider Advice from St. George’s University School of Medicine

A representative from the School of Medicine at St. George’s University in Grenada will present a workshop on medical school applications, covering information about primary applications to secondaries. Hosted by The Career Center.
THURSDAY, NOV. 7
Federal Funding for International Research

This workshop is aimed at FSU researchers with some experience writing competitive grants who want to learn about the specific quirks, challenges and opportunities that arise for international research. Panelists include researchers with experience winning funding for international projects from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), as well as FSU staff and affiliates knowledgeable about federal compliance requirements and priorities for international research.
Engage Your World: Peace Corps Panel

Attendees will hear from three returned Peace Corps volunteers who served in Botswana, Malawi and Ukraine. The panelists will share their experiences serving in those communities and offer insights into the challenges and rewards of international service.
