Florida State University’s Student Government Association (SGA) celebrated its 75th anniversary with a reunion weekend last month hosted by the Division of Student Affairs. The reunion commemorated 75 years of student leaders’ dedication to the university, connecting past and current members of SGA with a weekend of events.
The Sept. 12-14 festivities included a reception in Dodd Hall, an anniversary dinner in the Student Union Ballrooms — which many alumni saw for the first time since it reopened in 2022 — and an SGA tailgate prior to watching the Seminoles play Memphis at Doak Campbell Stadium. SGA alumni from around the country attended the events, along with current student leaders from different branches of student government.
“Celebrating SGA’s 75th anniversary was an invaluable opportunity to connect with our incredible alumni and honor the legacy they’ve built,” said FSU Student Body President Jackson Boisvert. “This reunion weekend was not just about looking back on our rich history but also about forging new connections and inspiring the next generation of student leaders. It’s a reminder of the impact we can have on our university and beyond.”
Many alumni also expressed their enthusiasm for the reunion, both in reconnecting with old friends and colleagues and meeting active members of student government. The weekend provided a unique platform for alumni to offer guidance and mentorship to current students, fostering a sense of continuity and purpose. Many shared stories of their time at FSU, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs they experienced while serving in SGA.
Former Student Senate Pro-Tempore and member of the inaugural Union Board Mike Van Dyke also shared his excitement and gratitude for the reunion.
“It’s inspiring to see how the organization has evolved while still maintaining the core values and spirit that make FSU so special,” Van Dyke said. “Reconnecting with fellow alumni and meeting the current student leaders has reaffirmed the lasting impact of our time in SGA, and I’m excited to see how these future leaders will continue to shape the university.”
