Florida State University’s College of Music presents the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra featuring celebrated blind Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii.
The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 22 in the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.
“The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra’s mission aligns with Florida State University College of Music’s commitment to enriching lives through extraordinary musical experiences,” said Gregory Jones, associate dean of the College of Music. “Their passion for collaboration, innovation and artistic excellence resonates with the university’s dedication to fostering a vibrant cultural environment.”
The centerpiece of the performance will be Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-minor, showcasing the extraordinary talent of Tsujii. The program will also include an orchestral arrangement of Schumann’s Carnaval, Op. 9 and a new composition by composer Nathalie Joachim.
“This event marks the first-ever visit of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra to Tallahassee, promising a night of unparalleled musical excellence,” Jones said.
Known for their innovative and conductor-less approach to orchestral performance, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has garnered praise for their high-level musicianship. As noted by the New York Times, their performances are marked by “perfect unanimity” and “edge-of-the-seat intensity.”
In addition to the concert, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra will engage with university leaders through a special event, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra Leadership Institute, to provide insight into collaborative leadership principles.
