Food, music and cultural artifacts from around the world will take center stage at Florida State University’s International Bazaar this Friday, Feb. 17.
The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) will host the event in the Globe at 110 S. Woodward Ave. from 4–6:30 p.m. This event is open to all FSU faculty, staff, and students with an FSU ID.
This is the 28th year for the International Bazaar.
The CGE staff expects more than 400 attendees for the event which includes more than a dozen student and campus cultural groups, said Intercultural Programs Manager Rachel Neale.
“It’s an amazing opportunity for these organizations to share their heritage and history and inspire others to do the same,” Neale said. “Cross-cultural exchange like this brings us closer together as a community by encouraging global awareness and understanding.”
Neale said she expect the selection of international foods being prepared to be a highlight of the event.
The menu will feature specialty dishes and a selection of drinks, coffees and teas sourced from different countries and regions including falafel with tahini sauce, Korean dumplings, samosas with chutney, tamales de elote with crema and salsa, spanakopita, baklava, Thai tea, and Finnish long drink to name a few.
“We’ll have people in international dress, music, decorations, books, art, cultural artifacts and knickknacks from around the world,” Neale said. “The different organizations will have table displays, presentations, and activities.”
Cultural groups slated to be at the Bazaar represent an array of regions and countries. Those groups include: the Arab Student Union, Bangladeshi Student Association, Cuban American Student Organization, FSU Belly Dancers, Hispanic Graduate Student Association, Iranian Student Association, Japanese Student Association, La Società Italiana, Middle East Center, Peruvian Student Association, Society for the Advancement of Learned Slavic Academics, Slavic Student Association, South Asian Student Association, and Turkish Student Association.
